The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences features an Institutional Grants Program that assists in fostering educational activities between the public and the film industry. It encourages the appreciation of motion pictures as both an art form and a vocation. These institutional grants prioritize recipients who are minorities and qualified individuals encountering financial difficulties in pursuing film education. The program is open for submissions every year. Since 1968, the Academy has distributed more than 400 grants to a variety of motion picture-related schools, colleges and non-profit organizations to promote quality film education and opportunities for aspiring filmmakers.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association Fellowship is the association's signature program supporting the education of students in the "Film Arts" (as defined by the school, including but not limited to education programs in directing, cinematography, screenwriting, producing, editing, acting and/or set design). Each year the HFPA offers fellowship grants to film schools with national stature and/or regional importance in the greater Los Angeles area through financial support for tuition fees and other direct educational expenses and costs associated with producing student film/graduation film projects.
