Scholarships for Black Nurses

There are several scholarships geared toward minority nurses that seek to encourage and foster more participation in the health care field. In particular, many organizations offer awards specifically for black nurses. Some of these scholarships are for students and working nurses. In some cases, any ethnic minority is eligible to apply. These awards range in value and duration.
  1. National Black Nurses Association (NBNA) Scholarship Program

    • NBNA has 14 awards. Candidates must be enrolled in a nursing program, hold NBNA membership and have at least one full year of school remaining. You will need to submit official transcripts, a two-page essay, two letters of recommendation and evidence of participation in student nurse activities. Awards range from $500 to $2,000. The annual deadline is April 15.

The selection process for each nominee also requires that you currently attend or apply to a four-year or master's program, have a letter of reference, demonstrate leadership and write a statement of your career goals. Each year $2,000 is awarded to one student per association. Deadlines vary per association.
