Each year, this scholarship awards $500 to one female who is a member of the United States Association of Blind Athletes (USABA). Female students must have a full-time enrollment at a two-year or four-year college or university. Other eligibility requirements include being a United States citizen or legal resident and having participated in USABA sports programs. The USABA considers students with excellent academic achievements, involvement in extracurricular activities, and USABA involvement. Interested students must send cover letters and transcripts by Aug. 15 of each year.

This program is open to all students who have disabilities. Applicants must write an essay of no more than 750 words, complete an application form and click the “Register Now” link on the website. Eligibility requirements include being a citizen or legal resident of the United States and full-time enrollment in a two-year or four-year accredited college. Students who win the $750 must prove their disabilities through their Disability Student Services department. The DisAbled Person’s organization defines disability as “a disadvantage or deficiency, especially a physical or mental impairment that interferes with or prevents normal achievement in a particular area. Something that hinders or incapacitates.” Students must submit applications by the Oct. 28 deadline.

This scholarship provides funds to women with physical disabilities who attend an accredited college or university in the United States. To apply, you must be a woman with a disability who has been accepted into a graduate program and is a member of the American Association of People with Disabilities with the willingness to network on the ELA listserv. The Ethel Louise Foundation determines scholarship amounts by a student’s leadership development, academic achievement, and participation in disability activities. The foundation sends the scholarship to the student’s college or university to pay on tuition and fees. The application process consists of completing a typed ELA scholarship application form, completing a ELA Disability Verification form, submitting an essay of 1,000 words or less, submitting two letters of recommendation, and including an unofficial college or university transcript.
