Veteran Grants for Trade School

Many scholarships will stipulate that a recipient must be attending a four-year institution, which disqualifies students attending trade schools. However, a number of scholarships enable veterans to attend two-year trade schools. Many educational grants for veterans have specific criteria, such as sustaining an injury during active duty, serving a certain amount of time or serving during a particular conflict.
  1. Tillman Military Scholars

    • The Pat Tillman Foundation provides grant money for military veterans to attend two-year trade school programs through the Tillman Military Scholars Program. These educational grants are awarded in varying amounts to help veterans pay the costs associated with pursuing higher education, including tuition, fees, books, room and board, and even child care. Tillman Military Scholarships may be renewable in some cases. Criteria for selection include demonstrated financial need, educational and career ambition, record of achievement, record of community service and essay quality. The annual deadline for application is April 30. Interested students should visit the Pat Tillman Foundation website for more information.

The Fund for Veterans' Education Scholarships

    • The Fund for Veterans' Education provides scholarship assistance to veterans who want to pursue higher education at accredited two-year and four-year institutions after leaving active duty. These scholarships are awarded in varying amounts based on both financial need and the length of military service. To be eligible, a veteran must have served for a minimum of 60 days in Afghanistan or Iraq after September 11, 2001. Scholarships are also available to veterans who did not meet the 60-day requirement due to an injury sustained during active military service. The annual deadline for application is November 3. Interested students should visit the Veterans' Fund website for video information about the program and to download an electronic application.
