College Grants for Married People With No Children

Married students face a set of unique financial challenges and pressures. Whether you want to return to college to complete a post-secondary degree, or you are entering college for the first time, you may qualify for a variety of grants and scholarships. Federal grants give aid to students nationwide regardless of the academic institution they attend, while many universities offer private scholarships specifically for married students in degree-earning programs.
  1. Ann and Albert Barker Memorial Scholarship

    • The Ann and Albert Barker Memorial Scholarship grants married University of Rhode Island students financial assistance for undergraduate education. Students must be enrolled at the University of Rhode Island and maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.5 to qualify. The Ann and Albert Barker Memorial Scholarship may be granted to married students with or without children.

    ThanksUSA

    • The ThanksUSA fund gives awards of $3,000 to spouses of military service personnel. To receive the award, you must be a high school graduate planning to enroll in a two- or four-year accredited college or university, or equivalent vocational school. If you have already earned a two-year Associate's degree, you may use the award to pursue a Bachelor's degree. You must also have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0 on your most recent academic records to qualify.

    James H. and Sara Burnham Memorial Scholarship

    • Married juniors and seniors at the University of Michigan-Flint can qualify for the James H. and Sara Burnham Memorial Scholarship. To receive the award, you must demonstrate financial need and hold a record of good academic standing at the University of Michigan-Flint. You do not have to submit an application to receive the award--the office of financial aid considers all qualifying students.

    Federal Pell Grant

    • If you are a married student struggling to make ends meet, you may qualify for a Federal Pell Grant. Many independent low-income students--including married individuals--receive Pell Grants each year in amounts as high as $5,500.
