How to Locate Your Essay Score on the College Board

To apply for many accredited universities and colleges, you must take the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT). Some students also choose to take Advanced Placement (AP) tests for college course credits. The SAT and AP, both administered by College Board, measure your academic aptitude in areas such as math, reading, writing, history and sciences. Part of the SAT and some of the AP tests includes an essay, and your final essay score is based on a 12-point grading system.

Scroll through the SAT results page and locate the essay score section. You will see an essay score made up of two separate numbers and a final score. The two separate numbers indicate your score from each individual grader, and the larger number is a combination of the two, which reflects your final SAT essay score. For example, if the first grader gives your essay a 4 and the second grader gives you a 6, your final score for the essay is 10 (out of 12).
