Pay close attention to geometry concepts in your tenth grade math classes. You will see a lot of geometry on the TAKS.
Learn the basic geometry shapes and terminology. Know how to do translations and reflections well. Understand nets, and finding surface areas and volume.
Pull up a tenth-grade math TAKS test online (see Resources). Test yourself by taking the exam online and submitting it for grading online. It's free. Watch for the concepts you see on the TAKS in your everyday math classes during the school year.
Study and learn about probabilities. Define the concept. Practice problems. Learn the Pythagorean Theorem really well. You will see this a lot on the test. Know how to do algebraic equations and find the x and y variables. Know standard algebra forms of equations like the slope-form.
Understand and learn how to calculate percentages. Determine ratios in fractions, as well as in word problems. Know what domain and range mean. Practice reading graphs and charts such as bar, line, plot, and stem and leaf. Know how to find the solution to a two-variable set of algebra equations by substitution or combination.
Work on parabolas and understand how they relate to word problems. Learn the difference between mean, median and mode. Do some of these tasks and you will be on your way to passing a tenth grade math TAKS test by the end of the year.
