How to Pass the California Architect Supplemental Exam

The California Architect Supplemental Exam often referred to as the CSE, is an oral test of about 28 to 35 questions. The questions on the test pertain to the basic architect knowledge and conditions of the state of California. You will be given one and a half hours to complete the exam.       Submit the CSE application with the enclosed fee.

      Study the information in the study guide. According to the California Architects Board website, you will not be asked any questions that are not based on the information in this study guide.

      Study the test plan that is in the study guide.

      Study the reference pages that you are given with the application.

      Get good directions to the exam location and consider taking a drive there so you are sure of the route and won't get lost on the day of the test.

      Arrive on time for the test. When you arrive on time you will be given an optional 20-minute review period in which you will have quiet time to study your testing material. If you arrive late, then you forfeit the study period.
