How to Get a Child's WASL Test Scores

The Washington Assessment of Student Learning, known as WASL, was a mandatory test for all public school students in grades 4, 7 and 10 in the state of Washington until August 2009. Though the test is no longer used, you can still access the scores and testing booklets from previous years. If your child took the WASL, the scores were sent to the student's home. However, you can request to have your child's scores and test booklets from previous years retrieved for viewing. Only a parent or legal guardian can request and access WASL test scores and test booklets.

Instructions

Check your child's transcript. Beginning with the high school graduating class of 2006, WASL scores were placed on students' transcripts. The WASL was only given in Washington state, so the score has no bearing on college entrance information. To request a high school transcript, call or request one in person at your child's school records or counseling office.

Request to view your child's test booklet. All guardian's and parents have the right to view their child's test booklets upon request. To request a viewing of your student's test booklets, at which time you also will receive a copy of their score sheets, download an application form from the website of the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) of the State of Washington. Print, fill out and send the form to:

      Assessment Operations Office
      Attn: Request to View
Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction

Wait for the test booklet and score to arrive at your student's testing location. Parents and guardians are allowed one hour to view each of the test booklets. The test booklets must remain inside of the testing room to be returned to the archival department.
