You should begin your preparation well in advance. Actual GED tests are available for pre-test preparation, which can give you a good idea of your strengths and weaknesses in the math section as you prepare for the test. As the test date nears, try to maintain a normal routine and not do any unusual activities. Get a good night's sleep before the test.
Each section of the math portion of the GED consists of 25 multiple-choice questions, and you will have 45 minutes to complete each section. This allows just under two minutes for each question.
There are many books to prepare you for the GED, including ones by Barrons, Kaplan, Princeton Review, McGraw-Hill and many others. Princeton Review publishes a collection of actual tests.
At least 10 free online programs exist to help you practice for the math portion of the GED. These include 4tests.com, gedpractice.com, testprepreview.com and many others. Try several of them briefly, and pick the one with which you feel most comfortabl. Practice a little bit each day, rather than trying to cram all of your studying into one weekend.
According to the American Council on Education, the mathematics test has roughly equal amounts of material from these content areas: number operations and number sense; measurement and geometry; data analysis, statistics and probability; and algebra, functions and patterns. By taking practice tests, you will learn which areas are strong and weak for you, and where to concentrate your study time.
