Check with your school math faculty if your school has registered with MathCounts. Decide if you want to compete as an individual/group or school; these are two different competition categories. Elect one of your math teachers to represent either you, your group, or your school as "coach" for the competition if your school hasn't competed in the games before.
Register your interest for the 2011/12 season by calling 703-299-9006 or emailing [email protected]. The organization will inform you when the 2011/12 competitive season is open to applicants.
Fill in the online registration form for 2011/12 when it appears on the website, under "Register My Math Club for the MathCounts Club Program" or "Register My School for the MathCounts Competition and Club Programs."
Download the free competition sets full of example tests, and Volume 1 of the MathCounts School Handbook from the website. You or your school will receive the full handbook in the post later on.
Scout the MathCounts newsletter and updates online, or phone/email for upcoming events.
Register via your school, or as a solo player/homeschooler in the 14-to-18-year-old age range, by visiting the World Maths Day website by Feb. 28. Prizes include medals and trophies.
Choose "The Constructivist Medal" web-based challenge if you are an advanced student, for the chance to win a specialist prize.
Ask your school officials to download the "school fund-raising pack" on the World Maths Day website if they haven't already done so. This allows your school to obtain sponsor pledges for you and other students. Half of the money you raise goes to your school, the other half to UNICEF's work to educate needy children.
Practice your math skills using the World Maths Day resource packs on the website.
