How to Know If You Passed the CAHSEE

The California High School Exit Examination, also known as the CAHSEE, must be passed in order to graduate from a California high school. This exam, focusing on English and math skills, is taken in the tenth grade. If a student fails to pass either portion during the sophomore year, it can be taken each year until a passing score is achieved. During the junior year, the exam can be given twice, then up to five times in the senior year. Anticipate a two-month wait after the test date to learn if you passed the CAHSEE.

Contact your school. CAHSEE results are sent to your school no later than eight weeks after the test is given. Call your school guidance counselor to inquire if the test results have been received and, if not, the estimated date of arrival. If the results are in, you can ask your counselor whether or not you passed before receiving your own copy of the report.

Watch the mail. Your school will receive two copies of your CAHSEE results. One will be kept on file with your student records and the other will be sent to your parents or guardian. The results should arrive at the school within two months of the test date and be sent to you immediately after arrival.

Review the report. When you receive your copy of the CAHSEE results, the left side will reveal your English score and the right will show your math score. Each side will have a chart detailing your score, along with the required score to pass, then a status section indicating whether you passed or failed. Tests are scored on a scale of 275 to 450 and you must score a 350 or above to pass both subjects.
