Calculate the student score in "Sense of Mastery" (MAS) by totaling the answers to the 20 MAS-related questions. This produces an MAS T-score based on optimism, self-efficacy and adaptability.
Calculate the student score in "Sense of Relatedness" (REL) by totaling the answers to the 24 REL-related test questions. This produces an REL T-score based on trust, support and tolerance.
Calculate the student score on the "Emotional Relativity Scale" by totaling the answers to the 20 ER-related test questions. This produces an ER T-score based on sensitivity, recovery and impairment.
Compare the individual T-scores with "The Resource Index," which is the standardized average of the Sense of Mastery (MAS) scale and Sense of Relatedness (REL) scale T-scores. This will produce a Resource Index T-score, which is an estimate of the youth's personal strength or resources taking MAS and REL criteria into account.
Calculate the "Vulnerability Index" T-score by finding the difference between the freshly calculated Resource Index T-score and the Emotional Relativity (ER) Scale score from the test. Compare your test writer's Vulnerability Index to the standardized Vulnerability Index and the resulting number, the Vulnerability Index T-score, estimates a youth's predisposition to adversity challenges.
Calculate overall student resilience by processing the T-scores from the Resource and Vulnerability Indexes. Categorize the results for the RSCA determination of resilience: "High resilience" for 60 and above; "Above average" for 56-59; "Average" for a score of 46-55; "Below Average" for a score of 41-45; and "Low Resiliency" for a score of 40 or less.
