Learning centers offer different services depending on the equipment available at each location. All learning centers, however, offer some type of tutorial-based student support; this sometimes comes from licensed teachers, but it may also be provided by volunteers.
In most cases, learning centers are grant-funded nonprofit organizations. Some, however, operate as for-profit institutions, marketing their tutorial services to the local community.
Learning centers are sometimes run in conjunction with multipurpose classrooms or computer labs if there are enough resources to go around. They are often integral parts of campus communities.
Two of the largest learning center companies are Sylvan Learning Centers and Huntington Learning Centers. Both companies have offices across the United States.
In many cases, both for-profit and nonprofit learning centers forge partnerships with local schools, allowing for collaboration between learning center staff, teachers and parents.
