Napkin Holder Projects for Preschoolers

Create simple napkin ring holders to decorate tables for any occasion using using basic materials and your preschoolers' creativity. Making your own napkin holders with children is a great way to include them in decorating for a special holiday or celebration. Using recycled materials puts items to use that might have ended up in the trash, helping teach kids about conserving resources.
  1. Painted Primary Rings

    • Cut toilet paper tubes in half and place small cups of red, yellow and blue tempera paint out along with small paintbrushes for preschoolers to use. Cover the work surface with sheets of newspaper to protect the area. Allow children to paint the outsides of the cut toilet paper tubes creating colorful napkin rings. When the tubes dry, the children can help roll the napkins and place them inside the tubes and place them on the table to use.

    Touchy Napkin Rings

    • Use construction paper along with tissue paper and glue to create colorfully textured napkin rings. Cut a 2- by 4-inch strip of construction paper and lay it flat on a work surface alongside small precut squares of various colors of tissue paper. Take a pencil and place a piece of tissue paper on the end, dip in a small tray of glue and then on the tissue paper. Cover the strip of construction paper with bits of tissue paper. Glue the long ends of the strip together to create a textured napkin ring.

    Spring Flower Napkin Holders

    • Cut a green strip of felt 2 by 4 inches long. Pre-cut a variety of colored small circles of felt along with oval shapes to use as flower petals. Have preschoolers glue petals on the green strip of felt resembling a flower with a small circle in the middle. Once the flower is finished, glue the long ends together to create a felt flower napkin holder. Preschoolers can place flowered napkins in the holder to use for a spring-inspired meal or celebration.

    Glitzy Rings

    • Cut toilet paper tubes in half and have preschoolers cover the outsides with glue using a brush. Roll the toilet paper rolls in colored glitter or just silver or gold. Allow the sparkling napkin holders to dry and use for a very special party or celebration.
