Encourage your preschool and toddler students to use their imaginations to create Santa's workshop. Give students two simple house shapes cut from white card stock. Provide art supplies such as markers, crayons, pom poms, paint and glitter, and encourage students to draw the inside of Santa's workshop on one house, and the outside on the other. When students are finished, staple the two houses together on the left side, so that the outside house is on the top and you can open it to see the inside of the house.
You can make use of cotton balls to make a bearded Santa. Cut circles from white paper and triangles from red paper; give one circle and triangle to each student. In addition, give students several cotton balls. Encourage students to draw Santa's mouth and nose on the circle, and show them how to glue on two wiggly eyes; you might need to help your toddlers to do this. Next, encourage students to glue the triangle onto the top of Santa's head to make a hat. To make a beard, show students how to pull cotton balls apart and glue the cotton pieces to Santa's chin. Students may also choose to glue cotton to the hat as well.
Make a classroom display of Santa's Sleigh. Cut a large sleigh from brown bulletin board paper and attach to the bulletin board. Give students large squares cut from card stock or bulletin board paper, as well as art supplies. Ask students to decorate the squares to look like presents; they can use non-toxic markers, paints, crayons and even glitter. Purchase a bag of paper bows and let students attach one bow to each gift. Help students glue their presents to Santa's sleigh.
Make festive Santa hats for your preschool students to wear. Cut large circles from red construction paper. Cut the circles in half and give one half-circle to each student. Provide students with markers and glitter pens and let them decorate one side of their paper. Show students how to roll up the half-circle to make a cone-shaped hat and attach with glue. Give each student cotton balls and encourage them to glue the cotton balls around the bottom edge of the hat.
