How to Make a Preschool Full-Day Schedule

Preschool age children are typically 16 months to 4-years old. Children of this age group have a very short attention span and cannot be expected to stay on one task for a very long period of time. Their schedule should contain learning activities, play time and rest periods throughout the day. A consistent routine is also very important for this age group. Similar activities should take place at approximately the same time every day.

Instructions

    • 1

Schedule an hour in the morning for the preschool children to get settled in. Have the children put their stuff away, eat breakfast and get prepared for their day. Plan a half an hour for a learning activity, such as story time or bible study next. Allow the children an hour of free play time.

    • 2

Prepare the children for lunchtime. Set a bathroom and hand washing routine after free play. Allow an hour in the schedule for the children to eat lunch. After lunchtime, set aside an hour or so for naps.

    • 3

Start the afternoon schedule with an hour for a craft or music activity. The preschool children will be ready to focus on a structured activity after nap time. Afterward allow an hour for free play. Begin preparation for the end of the day. Have the children put toys away and gather their coats and belongings.
