How to Make a Homemade Toy for Preschoolers

From honking car horns to talking dolls, preschoolers enjoy toys that make noise. When given a toy they may ask, "What does it do?" They may expect the blinking lights and the musical sounds. However, they appreciate homemade toys just as they are intrigued with store-bought toy. You can create a noisy toy instrument for your preschooler to shake, shake and shake.

Things You'll Need

  • Plastic potato chip container or frosting container
  • Potato chip container or frosting lid
  • Contact paper
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Dry beans

Instructions

    • 1

      Remove label from potato chip container or frosting container. Wash the container and the lid. Let both air dry.

      Flip contact paper on the adhesive side and wrap contact paper around container to measure how much you'll need. Mark length with a pencil and cut on the line.

      Remove contact paper backing and attach contact paper to the container.

      Pour approximately 1/2 cup of dry beans into the container.

      Cut a circle the size of the lid from the contact paper and attach it to the lid's exterior.

      Line container's opening with glue and attach lid. Let dry.

    • 7

      Decorate container and lid with stickers.
