Choose a theme for your parents' day. While your infant students will not be able to contribute to the theme in a tangible way, the theme can reflect their ages. For example, the parents' day theme could be "Bonding with My Infant" or "My Infant: A Day in the Life." The theme can guide the activities you incorporate into the parents' day event.
Decorate the classroom. Even infant students can get involved in this activity. Use finger paints to make the hand prints and foot prints of each infant. Hang them up around the classroom. Or take a picture of each infant, mount it on a piece of colorful construction paper and write the baby's name underneath the picture. Hang these pictures throughout the classroom.
Plan activities that parents and infants can participate in together. Encourage parents to explore their infants' senses of touch by tickling their feet and playing with their hands. Play music during this activity, which will stimulate the infants' senses and make the activity even more entertaining. Encourage parents to imitate their infants facial expressions and movements to bond with their children in the classroom.
Set aside time to answer parents' questions when they're in the classroom. Parents of infants, in particular, will likely have plenty of questions about their children's care. Host an open forum during parents' day to answer any questions or address any concerns they have. Kick off this meeting with a quick presentation about the infants' daily schedule, which might answer many questions parents come in with.
Have a sign-up sheet for parents to volunteer in the classroom. Parents' day can serve as an opportunity to get them involved in their infants' classroom. If you have a class party coming up or simply need a parent to help in the classroom for a couple of hours every week, tell the parents about it during this event. Their involvement in the classroom on parents' day might encourage them to get involved throughout the rest of the year.
