How to Dye Dry Pasta

Whether preparing for a preschool art class or a family craft project, making a variety of brightly colored pasta in advance will ensure that the endeavor goes well. The traditional method of dying pasta in watered-down food coloring created pastel shades. Adding rubbing alcohol to the food coloring will result in bright, bold and attractive noodles, which are perfect for making macaroni necklaces and other colorful craft items.

Instructions

    • 1

Pour the desired amount of dry pasta into a zip-seal plastic bag.

    • 2

Pour enough rubbing alcohol into the bag to cover the pasta and add the desired amount of food coloring.

    • 3

Seal the plastic bag and insert it into another plastic bag to guard against leaks.

    • 4

Let the bags sit overnight. The longer the pasta soaks, the more vibrant the color will be.

    • 5

Drain the alcohol mixture, being careful not to splash. Do not rinse the pasta.

    • 6

Set the pasta onto a cookie sheet lined with paper towels. Allow the pasta to dry completely before using it for craft projects.
