How to Dry an Apple Pomander

A pomander was once used in medieval times to mask body odors since bathing wasn't prevalent. Today, they're fabulously bohemian-chic and serve as perfumed items that don't have to touch your skin. Apple pomanders are simple, but require drying in the process. Knowing how to dry an apple pomander gives you the option to recreate a traditional accessory for your modern needs.

      Core the apple without cutting it in half. To do this, puncture the top of the apple near the stem and cut around the stem area in a circle. Do this all the way through the apple to make a hollowed circle in the center of it.

      Sit the apple on a folded sheet of newspaper.

      Place the sheet of newspaper with the apple on it, outside to dry for three weeks. During this time, the apple will shrivel a little bit. This is normal.

      Stuff the apple pomander with a sachet of your favorite herbs and flowers. Alternatively you can use cotton balls soaked in fragrant oils.
