Read books about kangaroos to your preschool students. Choose a combination of fun stories along with educational books about these animals. Good selections include "Happy Birthday to You, Blue Kangaroo," by Emma Chichester Clark, "Kangaroos for Kids (Wildlife Series)," by Judith Logan Lehne, or "Australian Kangaroos and Wallabies (Nature Kids)," by Pat Slater.
Create kangaroo paintings with the children. Give each child white card stock or poster board to paint on. Paint brown and yellow kangaroos hopping around in grasslands, desert areas or other landscapes. The kids might also want to paint a baby kangaroo or a little one in his mother's pouch.
Teach your preschool children about kangaroos by taking them on field trips to the local zoo. Spend extra time at the kangaroo exhibit and talk about these animals with the children. Visit other animal exhibits, but make sure to put emphasis on the kangaroos. Help them draw kangaroo pictures and talk about their experience after you get back from the trip.
Help your preschool students make a kangaroo picture book. Place three or more pieces of card stock together and use a hole punch to punch holes in the left hand side of the book. Use brown and white yarn to secure the pages together. Help the kids cut pictures of kangaroos and baby kangaroos from magazines, old books or online sources. The kids can also draw pictures in the book. Decorate the front and border of the pages with kangaroo or other animal stickers.
