Help children make paper donkeys using paper bags and card stock or construction paper. Show them how to cut out a donkey's ears, nose and other features with brown and black paper. Glue the nose, mouth and eyes on the front of the paper bag and glue the ears sticking up on top of the bag. They can also make arms with gray hooves sticking out from both sides of the paper bag.
Encourage your preschool children to improve their coloring skills by coloring pictures of donkeys and other animals. (See first-school.ws/theme/animals/cp_farm/cp_donkey.htm.)
Use crayons or colored pencils, depending on what the kids like to work with. They might also like to color pictures of the famous donkey from the movie "Shrek." Cut out the colored donkeys and glue them on cards, collages or hang them up for display.
Encourage the kids to paint pictures of donkeys from movies such as "Pinocchio" and "Shrek." Watch the movies first and show the kids pictures to inspire their creations. Kids can also paint general pictures of donkeys in a farm or desert setting. Help them paint a large letter "D" for donkey next to their donkey. Teaching letters with crafts can help children learn the alphabet. You can also teach them how to paint the word "donkey" on the top of the page.
Encourage the kids to make a miniature toy box featuring donkeys. Give the children shoeboxes and help them paint them gray. Once the paint is dry, help them adorn the box with general donkey stickers or donkey figures from movies. The kids can also glue their colored picture on the box or add charms and other decorations, such as fake gemstones.
Help children learn about the humble, hard-working nature of donkeys by creating a book with scriptures and pictures of donkeys. Line up three or more sheets of construction paper and use a hole punch to punch holes in the left-hand side of the book. Use yarn to secure the book in place. The kids can cut out and glue on different pictures of donkeys on each page. Not all preschoolers know how to write, so help them write down scriptures about the nature of donkeys on each page. Scriptures such as Genesis 22: 3 talks about donkeys being good servants to humans. Donkeys brought Mary and Joseph to Bethlehem. These animals were used to help people travel during biblical days.
