Skunk Craft for Preschoolers

Adding a craft to a lesson is an effective way to reach children in your class who may be more tactile and hands-on learners. It also allows them to harness their imagination and creativity while still learning. A skunk craft is a good choice for a forest or wildlife lesson. Although some of your preschoolers may have never seen or smelled a skunk, they will be excited to make their own skunk puppet.

Instructions

    • 1

Send home a note for each child to bring in an adult-sized black sock. Have a few extra for children who come unprepared. Stretch the socks over their hands with the heel of the sock on the top of their hands.

    • 2

Paint a white strip with the paint or use the fabric glue to attach the faux fur to the skunk, starting at the knuckle and attaching it down the back of the sock.

    • 3

Stick the googly eyes on the front of the puppet. Have the children use their knuckles as a guide.

    • 4

Glue the pom or bead on the tip of the puppet to form the skunk's nose.

    • 5

Have the children stretch their hand up and place the felt tongue in the palm of their hand. Use either the glue or double-sided tape to attach the tongue.
