Drawing Activities for Preschoolers

During the preschool years children begin developing creative minds and motor skills. One of the best ways to help a child tailor these skills is by taking part in drawing activities. Children can create a piece of art while working on holding art supplies and exploring their imaginations.
  1. Wall Art

    • Shine a projector or lamp on a wall. Tape a piece of paper to the wall. Ask children to create a shadow with their hands. Trace the shadow and give the paper to the child. Ask the child to decorate the paper with crayons.

    Wet Chalk

    • Mix six tablespoons of sugar with crushed, colored chalk and ¼ cup of water. Ask the children to draw a picture using the mixture on a white or black paper. You can ask children to draw a specific thing such as their favorite animal or their parents, or let them draw whatever is in their mind.

    Scribbles

    • Give children a piece of construction paper along with a variety of crayons. Ask the children to scribble for a designated period of time. For example after five minutes, have them show the class. Hang the pictures on the wall or a bulletin board for display.

    Hand Drawing

    • Have the child place their hand on a piece of paper. Trace around with a marker or pencil. Ask the children to use crayons to decorate inside or around the hand drawing. This is an especially good activity during Thanksgiving when a hand can be converted into a turkey.
