How Do I Register My Child for Pre-Kindergarten in Indiana?

Pre-kindergarten is a class for children the age of 4 in Indiana. The class is voluntary and you can enroll your child in a class the year before he or she begins kindergarten. Pre-K will educate your child in the basics of writing and reading, listening and communication, motor skills and social interaction and activity. To enroll your 4-year-old in a Pre-K class, go to the school you child is zoned to attend and fill out enrollment paperwork.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to the school your child is zoned to attend any Monday to Friday during school hours -- school hours are dependent on the school district in your area.

    • 2

Complete an enrollment application for Pre-K. The front desk clerk in the school administration office will provide the enrollment form for you upon request. Information required on the form varies by school district but generally includes your name, address and contact information, the name of the child enrolling, the child's date of birth and other personal information.

    • 3

Give the enrollment paperwork to the clerk. You must also provide a copy of your child's birth certificate to enroll her in Pre-K. If you are enrolling your child in a private school, you are required to pay a fee for Pre-K, which is determined at the time of enrollment.
