Create a colorful caterpillar using circles and different colors. To make them, paint the bottom of six different round paper plates with six different colors and allow them to dry thoroughly. Glue the plates together, gluing the plates in the middle section so that they stand up higher than the plates on the end. This creates a hump, making it look like it's crawling. Then, glue on googly eyes and draw in a mouth onto the front plate. Cut a piece of pipe cleaner in half to use for the antenna, gluing on a pom pom to each one of the ends. Cut more pipe cleaners in half and bend to create 12 legs, gluing them in between the plates.
Kids can create a xylophone while learning all about the rectangle shape, different colors and counting. They can name the colors as they paint their notes and count the number of notes on their xylophone. Teachers should pre-cut seven craft sticks for each child. Cut off about a 1/2 inch from each end, making each subsequent craft stick about a ½ inch smaller than the previous one. Then, kids can paint each craft stick a different color, allowing to dry thoroughly. Then, have kids lay the sticks out on a piece of construction paper putting the largest down first and then the second largest until all the sticks have been laid down. Glue the sticks down and then cut out the construction paper in the shape of the sticks to finish the xylophone. Glue the xylophone to the lid of the box and then place a marshmallow on a straw to create the mallets to play the xylophone.
Teach kids all about ovals and different colors with this craft. This craft is ideal to do around the Easter season since it involves a basket of eggs. Teachers should pre-cut white construction paper into several dozen egg shapes. Kids can then decorate their "eggs" using markers, crayons, paint, glitter and glue. Encourage kids to use different colors when decorating the eggs. Place the eggs in a basket filled with Easter grass or straw. Kids can take turns hiding eggs and finding them in teams.
Measure each child's head and then cut a small strip of paper just slightly longer than the measurement. Have kids cut triangles from different colored construction paper. Kids should be able to tell you the name of each color they are cutting. Have kids decorate each cut triangle with "jewels" such as sparkles, glitter and glue and beads. Then, glue each triangle (decorated side out) to the long strip of paper. Glue the ends of the long strip of paper. When the crown has dried, kids can try them on.
