Pre-K Crafts for the Letter M

Preschool students are just becoming familiar with the letters of the alphabet. One way to reinforce this knowledge is through crafts that focus on specific letters. If you are teaching the letter "M," there are a variety of fun craft activities out there that can help your preschoolers learn the letter properly.
  1. Letter Model

    • Focusing on the characteristics of the letter "M" can help preschoolers become more familiar with the letter. Have students make a model of the upper case letter "M" using modeling clay, helping them create the correct angles and proportions. Let them use whatever color clay they want. You can bake the models and have students paint them as well. Display them around the room or let students take them home.

    "M" Collage

    • A collage is a useful way to get students thinking about the variety of words that begin with the letter "M." Bring in a pile of old magazines or ask parents for samples if they have them lying around. Have students leaf through magazines and cut out things they see that begin with the letter "M." Get parent volunteers to help children with finding objects and cutting them out. Students can glue their cut-outs of money, monkeys and margarine onto a piece of construction paper. You can also have students arrange their found objects into the shape of a large letter "M."

    Favorite-Thing Painting

    • You can teach students about the letter "M" by having them think about all the wonderful things in the world that begin with that letter. Help students imagine what their favorite thing in the world is that begins with the letter "M." They might think of such words as "magic," "mommy" or "mushroom pizza." Have your students paint a picture of their favorite thing that begins with "M." Help them to paint the word below the visual representation of it.

    Mouse Craft

    • A mouse is an easy craft to make that begins with the letter "M." Have students draw and cut out a heart from construction paper of any color. Students should fold the heart in half down the middle to make the mouse's body. They can cut out small ears from paper of another color and glue them on. Use googly eyes for the mouse's eyes, and a black marker for the nose. Cut each student a piece of string or yarn to use as the mouse's tail. Insert it into the fold and glue it on. Help the children write "Mouse" on the side of each mouse.
