How to Make a Collage Teaching Colors

A collage is a simple project that allows your students to be creative, while teaching educational concepts such as colors. Lay out a variety of colored objects, and review the colors with your students. Demonstrate to them how to glue objects to paper to make a collage. Circulate around the room as your students work, and then provide time for each student to share his collage with the class. When the lesson is over, chances are your students will know their colors by heart.

Instructions

    • 1

Divide a piece of paper into six sections, using a ruler and a pencil.

    • 2

Repeat Step 1 so that each student in your class has his own piece of divided paper.

    • 3

Show your students how their paper is divided into six sections. Instruct them to use one section for each color -- red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple.

    • 4

Provide a large assortment of colored art supplies to your students to make their collages. Use items such as paper, colored cotton balls, colored pipe cleaners, colored pasta, stickers and glitter.

    • 5

Give your students safety scissors to cut their objects in any way they desire.

    • 6

Help your students glue many different objects of one color into each section on their paper, reviewing the colors as you go.

    • 7

Allow each collage to dry thoroughly.

    • 8

Invite each student to share his collage with the class, going over the colors as the collages are shared.
