When you use a Paper Mate SharpWriter mechanical pencil the first time, you may not immediately see the way that the .7mm, No. 2 lead advances or retracts from the tip of the plastic cone-shaped pencil end. Many mechanical pencil manufacturers move the lead with a push rather than twisting action. These types often feature an eraser-button or side-button design. Among those manufacturers that move the lead with a twist action, many design pencils that involve twisting two halves of the barrel. Paper Mate has designed the SharpWriter so the pencil end twists instead.
