Select your topic. Focus on a specific nation, culture or region of the world. Select a specific time period for the presentation. Having a specific focus for the project will make selecting the board elements easier.
Research your topic. Social studies evaluates how the cultures and societies develop and change over long periods of time. For example, you could make a presentation board about the effects of the plague in Europe in the 14th century.
Make graphs and charts to show statistical information about your topic. You could show how the population in Europe changed as the plague moved through the continent during the 1300s.
Use maps with graphic elements to show how the societies changed over large land masses. With the project board about the plague, you could use arrows to show the direction that the plague moved as it spread.
Post photographs to highlight a specific example of the project. Select unusual or unexpected photos to catch the viewers' attention. For example, a photo of a rat would highlight the probable role the rodent had in spreading the plague.
Use illustrations or artwork to highlight some of the more human elements of the project topic. Illustrations and artwork add visual diversity to the board elements. A picture depicting the massacre of the Jews in Strasbourg would show how the people of Germany were panicked about the spreading plague.
Label all of the elements of the board. Create a flyer for viewers to take with them after they are done reviewing the board. Add a bibliography to the back of the flyer. Educators will appreciate source citation.
