How to Convert Feet Per Minute to Yards Per Minute

Speed, also called rate, depends on two measurements: the distance and the total time of travel. Both of these can be measured with a variety of units. Speed is a combination of two separate units, so either unit can be converted to another like unit, changing the numerical representation of the speed but not the actual rate. You can convert speed from feet per minute (fpm) to yards per minute (yd/min) because feet and yards are both used to measure distance.

Instructions

    • 1

Separate the number from the speed measurement. For example, 600 fpm becomes 600.

    • 2

Divide the number by 3 because there are three feet in a yard. 600 divided by 3 is 200.

    • 3

Write the answer as yards per minute --- 600 fpm becomes 200 yd/min.
