How to Convert Kilograms per Cubic Meters to Pounds per Cubic Feet

Density measures the ratio between mass and volume. The larger the density, the heavier the item will be. Kilograms per cubic meter, abbreviated kg/m^3, measures density in the metric system. Pounds per cubic foot, abbreviated lb/ft^3, measures density in the imperial system. If you have two different density measures that you need to compare, you might need to convert from kilograms per cubic meter to pounds per cubic foot to compare them.

Instructions

    • 1

Multiply the density in kilograms per cubic meter by 0.0624279620336 to convert to pounds per cubic foot. For example, if you have a density of 50 kg/m^3, multiply 50 by 0.0624279620336 to get 3.12 lb/ft^3.

    • 2

Divide the density in kilograms per cubic meter by 16.018462999989968 to convert to pounds per cubic foot. For this example, divide 50 by 16.018462999989968 to check your answer of 3.12 lb/ft^3.
