How to Convert Cubic Feet to Height

If you have something whose measurements you know in cubic feet, you might want to know how much room you will need to store it. For example, you will want to know how tall of a container you will need, or how high the ceiling of a building or the roof of a truck will need to be to accommodate it. Cubic feet are a measurement of volume, which is calculated by multiplying height times width times length, and each dimension can be different. For example, you could have something measuring 2 feet long, 3 feet high and 5 feet wide, which makes it 30 cubic feet. But you can also have something with a volume of 30 cubic feet that is 3 feet long, 5 feet high and 2 feet wide. The same volume of cubic feet can have a varying height, depending on how long and wide it is.

Instructions

    • 1

Determine how high and wide of an area you need to store the material. For example, say you have a container measuring 5 feet wide and 2 feet long.

    • 2

Multiply the width and the length. For example, multiply 5 feet by 2 feet to get 10 square feet.

    • 3

Divide the number of cubic feet by the product of the width and length (in this scenario, 10). For example, if you are working with a volume of 30 cubic feet and you want to put it in a space that is 5 feet wide and 2 feet long, divide 30 by 10 to get an answer of 3 feet high.
