How to Convert Centimeters to Inches for Height

While picturing the approximate height of a person in feet and inches is fairly simple for most people, a measurement in centimeters, using the metric system, can leave one completely bewildered. With no point of reference, it's nearly impossible to know, simply by the numbers, if the person measured is tall, short or of average height. Conversion calculators are widely available on the Internet, but if you don't have a computer handy, you can use a simple math equation to turn a puzzling centimeter measurement into its equivalent number of feet and inches.

  Multiply the total centimeter measurement by 0.3937. For example, if the height is 191 centimeters, you would multiply this by 0.3937, resulting in 75.

  Divide the result from step one by 12. This will give you the total number of feet in the measurement: 6.25. However, since height is rarely measured in decimals, you will need to convert .25 feet into an equivalent number of inches.
- 3
  Multiply one foot (12 inches) by .25 percent. The result will be 3 inches.
- 4
  Give your final height measurement using both feet and inches. Using the same example of 191 centimeters, the final measurement would be 6 feet, 3 inches.
