Cinderella Activities for Kindergarten

Use Cinderella-themed crafts, activities and games in the classroom to help young children interact with the story. Use art and role play as a way for the kindergarten students to express what they have learned from the fairy tale. Use the story to teach children that hard work, honesty and kindness are important values.
  1. Character Headbands

    • Let children choose which characters they want to be from the story. Give each child a picture of the character and allow her to color it. Cut strips from colored construction paper and staple them in loops that will fit each child's head. Help the children cut out their characters and glue them to their headbands. As the children wear their headbands, read the story of Cinderella to them. Discuss the characters and their actions with the children. Allow the children to share what they would have done during the story's events if they were the characters through role play.

    Sequence Story Board

    • Print or draw pictures of events that take place during the story of Cinderella. As you tell the story, hang the pictures on the board in the order that they happen. Afterward, take down the pictures and mix them up. Ask the children to retell the story by placing the pictures back in order. Give each child a worksheet containing small versions of the pictures and instruct him to color the pictures. Help the children cut out the pictures and place them in order. Punch a hole through the top of the pictures and tie a piece of yarn through the hole to create storybooks for the children to take home.

    Shoe Matching Game

    • Find pictures of different types of shoes such as boots, slippers, sandals and dress shoes. Hold up each picture to the class and discuss the purpose of the shoes. Include pictures of shoes from different cultures. Create a matching game for the kindergarten students to play by gluing pictures of shoes to index cards. Mix up the cards and have the children turn over two cards at once to find a matching pair of shoes.

    Magic Art

    • Hold up a picture of a household object such as a refrigerator, couch, lamp, mirror or bed. Ask the children to think about what they would change the object into if they had magic to do so. Have the children share their answers and explain their reasons. After the discussion, instruct the children to draw and color a picture that illustrates the changed object. Hang their artwork on a classroom bulletin board for display.
