Curious George is featured on a PBS website designed for young children. Set up a computer center and allow time for children to navigate the site. Small children can learn to point and click and follow simple directions, such as pretending to swing on a vine, or make a silly face. The games for more advanced children can explore math, animal identification, mixing colors and basic mouse manipulation.
Toilet paper roll crafts are inexpensive. DLTK's Crafts for Kids includes directions for children to make a paper sculpture of George wearing the yellow hat. Martha Stewart's Kids features a template for a simple monkey mask. Pre-cut brown and yellow construction paper and provide glue sticks for wearable fun. Printable coloring and dot-to-dot worksheets are available for teachers on the PBS Curious George website.
Curious George PBS episodes are entertaining for the classroom. Older children may be able to enjoy the 2006 Curious George movie starring Will Ferrell. Like kindergartners, Curious George gets into trouble by rushing in to explore and have fun. Pop some popcorn. Take an intermission to stretch and sing "Ten Little Monkeys Jumping on a Bed."
While today's children are tech savvy, nothing takes the place of listening to a story being read aloud. The seven original books still make entertaining reading, and are available in Spanish translations. The stories lend themselves to the skill of prediction, "What do you think will happen next?" Additional adventures, including those with holiday themes, are available.
