Use a paper plate to create the moon. Assign each child a different phase and ask him to represent this using his paper plate. Help your kindergartners with the cutting or provide them with pre-cut moon phases to decorate.
For homework, ask the child to step outside after it is dark. Ask her to remember what the night sky looked like. Encourage the child to draw a sketch to help her remember. At school the following day, have the child recreate the night scene using black construction paper. Provide star and moon stickers or cutouts for the child to use, or encourage her to draw her own using metallic markers or glitter.
Study planets and the solar system and then ask your kindergarten student to create a model of this using paper and a hanger. Provide paper cut-outs of the planets and sun and allow the child to decorate them. Punch one hole in the top of each planet and thread a string through that hole. Tie each planet to the hanger and display the student's artwork from the classroom ceiling.
