Homemade Valentine Gift Ideas for Kindergardeners

Valentine's Day is a day that is reserved for showing loved ones how much they mean and even young children want to share their love on this holiday. If you're a parent of a kindergarten-aged child, help her create one-of-a-kind homemade Valentine gifts to give to the special people in her life.
  1. Heart Bobble Pencils

    • A heart bobble pencil is an easy homemade Valentine gift for kindergarten-aged children to make. Provide kids with red, white, pink or purple pipe cleaners, craft foam and heart-shaped stencils. Instruct children to trace a heart-shaped stencil onto a piece of craft foam and cut it out. After cutting out the heart, instruct children to glue the heart onto the end of a pipe cleaner. Once the glue has dried, twist the other end of the pipe cleaner around the top of a pencil.

    Lollipop Flowers

    • Have kindergarten-aged children create sweet lollipop flowers for their Valentine's. Instruct children to cut heart shapes out of red and pink construction paper. Have them glue the heart-shapes onto the wrapper of a lollipop with non-toxic glue. For each lollipop flower, instruct them to cut two rectangles from green construction paper and glue them to either side of the stick of the lollipop, creating leaves for the flower. To personalize the gifts, children can write a message on each of the hearts.

    Beaded Necklaces

    • Kindergarteners can make homemade necklaces for Valentine's Day gift. Cut a length of yarn, tie a knot in the end of the yarn and tape the knotted end of the yarn to the surface of a table. Provide children with red, white, pink and purple beads, as well as one large heart-shaped bead. Instruct kids to string the colored beads onto one half of the yarn. Upon reaching the center of the yarn, have kids string on the heart-shaped bead and then cover the rest of the yarn with more colored beads. Once the yarn is covered with beads, tie a knot in the end of the yarn and tie both ends of the yarn together to create a necklace.

    Heart Cookies

    • Whip up a batch of homemade cookies to give as Valentine gifts. Make a simple sugar cookie recipe, or you could even purchase pre-made dough. Roll out the dough and have children press heart-shaped cookie cutters into the dough. After baking the cookies, have kids ice them with pink icing and sprinkle red, white and pink sprinkles on top of the icing. Set the cookies onto a plate and wrap the plate with cellophane.
