How fast should a sixth grader type?

There's no single "should" for typing speed in a sixth grader. Typing speed depends heavily on individual practice and exposure to typing. However, a reasonable range to aim for would be between 20 and 40 words per minute (wpm).

Keep in mind:

* Accuracy is more important than speed. A slower, accurate typist is better than a fast, inaccurate one.

* Practice makes perfect. Consistent practice is key to improving typing speed.

* Individual differences are huge. Some students will naturally type faster than others.

Instead of focusing on a specific speed, encourage consistent practice and proper technique. Many free online typing tutors provide progress tracking and help develop good habits.
