  1. Phillips Exeter Academy

    • Phillips Exeter Academy was founded in 1781. Today, students from 44 states and 29 countries learn through a curriculum that features more than 350 courses. The school receives more than $15 million in financial aid annually to help students pay for tuition. The school operates with help from an endowment trust of more than $845 million. Approximately 865 students are enrolled in the boarding school. All students are in grades 9 through 12.

    St. Paul's School

    • Nestled among 2,000 acres of woodlands, St. Paul's School is affiliated with the Episcopal church but supports students of every faith and encourages discussion of spirituality in the world. Courses are taught in seven different languages, to accommodate the diverse student population. Founded in 1865, today the school features a strong science department, including courses in physics, biology, astronomy, ecology, robotics and artificial intelligence. About 35 percent of students receive financial aid, which totals approximately $6 million per year. The boarding school has an enrollment of 523 students.

    Deerfield Academy

    • Located on 280 acres, the academy educates 520 boarding school students each year. About 37 percent of students receive financial aid, which totals $6.2 million annually. Students benefit from two key facilities: The Boyden Library provides more than 75,000 educational resources, and the Koch Center for Science, Math and Technology features 30 classrooms, a 225-seat auditorium and a planetarium.

    Choate Rosemary Hall

    • In 1973, two schools combined to form Choate Rosemary Hall, and several improvements were made. In 1989, the Carl C. Icahn Center for Science was constructed. The school then transitioned the former science hall into the Paul Mellon Humanities Center, which houses the English, history, philosophy, religion and social sciences departments. More than 600 students from grades 9 through 12 enroll each year, and the school also serves about 220 day-school students. Choate Rosemary Hall offers more than 240 different courses, including honors courses in all disciplines and advanced placement prep courses.
