Houston, Texas, in southeastern Texas, is one of the largest cities in the US. The city has public, charter and private schools, and the public schools are part of the Houston Independent School District, which oversees 46 high schools and a total of 299 schools.   1. Cypress Christian

    • This is a co-ed private school for children in kindergarten through twelfth grade, and it is part of the Association of Christian Schools International (ASCI). Students must take the ASCI standardized test in grades kindergarten through tenth, and sophomores and juniors must take the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT). This school is in northwest Houston, and it has over 500 students, as of 2011. This is a Christian school, and one parent must provide a statement of faith for the school to accept the child. The school year lasts for 36 weeks, divided into two semesters.

    Eastwood

    • Eastwood Academy High School is a Houston Independent School District charter school, located in the western part of the city. There are 375 students as of 2011. The goal of this school is to prepare students for college, and students even take field trips to college campuses and hear college lectures. Students must complete 80 hours volunteer work to graduate. If you wish to enroll your child at this school, you must apply before the application deadline.     St. Thomas

    • St. Thomas High School is a Christian all-boys school for children in grades ninth through twelfth. The school serves over 700 students, and it has over 60 teachers and staff. Located in northwestern Houston, it started in 1900. The school is part of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and the Texas Education Agency. Their year consists of two semesters, each 18 weeks long.

    Austin

    • The Stephen F. Austin High School is a public school, part of the Houston Independent School District, and is located in southeastern Houston. The school serves students in grades ninth through twelfth, and usually has about 1,900 students. It offers magnet and dual credit courses, which allow students to earn both college and high-school credit. The Career and Technology Education courses teach students trade skills.
