A List of High School Science Project Ideas

Students at high school level are required to present advanced and innovative ideas during science fairs. At this level, students are already exposed to the dynamic aspects of physical, chemical and biological science and are ready to work on how to utilize their knowledge. Therefore, most science projects at the high school level involve ways of putting into practice this knowledge.
  1. Sources of Energy

    • At high school level, students can come up with projects that outline the various sources of energy in the world. These sources can be classified into renewable and nonrenewable sources of energy and their advantages and disadvantages can be outlined as well. Students can therefore come up with ways to fully exploit these sources, especially the renewable kind, while minimizing the rate of pollution from them. For example, a project to devise ways of more fully utilizing solar energy would fare well in a science fair.

    Climate Change

    • Climate change is a major problem facing the world. One reason for studying science is to gain the knowledge about how to solve eminent problems using the safest and most efficient scientific means. Climate change is caused by both natural and human factors. It is however almost impossible to curb the effects of natural factors to climate change without destroying the advantageous natural processes. On the other hand, students can come up with projects that can help to eradicate the human causes of climate change and global warming, such as production of greenhouse gases.

    Soil Erosion

    • Soil erosion is a problem affecting the environment and output from farms and is caused by natural factors such as wind, rainfall and flowing water. High school students can devise ways of preventing soil erosion in affected areas like slopes and bare ground such as building retaining walls or edging, mulching, matting and planting vegetation.

    Healing of Wounds

    • Biology students in high schools may set up a project to explain how wounds heal naturally and the effects of medication and how they speed up the healing process. In the project, students can design a model to explain and depict some of the processes involved, such as inflammation, wound contracture, fibroblastic phase and scar maturation.
