CERTS is a group of schools located throughout Utah that is dedicated to the residential treatment and education of teenage girls. Accredited by the Northwest Accreditation Commission and the National Association of Therapeutic Schools and Programs (NATSAP), CERTS programs focus on the idea that each girl has unique ways of learning. These schools separate girls by age and particular needs, focusing on anxiety, eating disorders, depression, substance abuse, learning disabilities, bipolar disorders and other problems. Generally, these schools are short-term facilities.
Stone Mountain is a boarding school in North Carolina that works with boys ages 11 to 17 who have learning disabilities, Attention Deficit Disorder (A.D.D.) or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (A.D.H.D.). It is a licensed non-public school that offers small classes and insists on close family involvement in the treatment of students. While this is a long-term facility in many cases, the facility encourages weekly phone conferences and frequent visits to keep parents involved.
SunHawk Adolescent Recovery Center is a facility in Utah for the treatment and education of teenagers with substance abuse problems. Students can develop healthy habits, receive treatment and learn in a highly-structured environment. Upon demonstrating the willingness and desire to change, students can earn extra privileges. However, if your child relapses within one year of his or her stay at SunHawk, the facility provides a 45 day refresher course on-site, at no cost.
Specializing in adolescents and young adults with Asperger's Syndrome, Autism and similar disorders, Talisman Academy in North Carolina works with students ages 12 to 20 on social and academic development. In addition to teaching the age appropriate curriculum, the facility also has a variety of experimental and hands-on activities that reinforce classroom learning. The school offers programs in the spring and fall. Instructors are sensitive to the needs of children with spectrum disorders who are spending their first extended time away from home.
