How to Convert Test Scores From a Stanford Achievement Test to New Jersey

A Stanford Achievement Test is a national test that shows a level of learning and education a student possesses. To convert those scores to scores that match with the New Jersey Department of Education, teachers, students and parents need to take a look at the test scores compared to the level of curriculum in New Jersey.

Instructions

    • 1

Convert grade levels. Stanford Achievement Tests rate students based on what grade level they appear to be at. New Jersey schools operate on the same grade levels as the tests promote, so the grade level listed on the test scores can be easily converted. The test will list a grade level such a s 6.3, which means that a student is listed at the sixth year and third month of education. Whatever level that corresponds to in the particular New Jersey school district is where that student stands.

Determine percentiles as compared to New Jersey grade levels. Stanford Achievement Tests also list scores in percentiles. A student may score in the 56 percentile. This means that the student did better than 56 percent of their peers, and that 44% percent of their peers did worse. This places a student right in the middle. Look at the scores of students in the New Jersey school district that are the same age to determine where a student is.

Compare the scores based on material learned. The Stanford Achievement Tests test general material for grade levels, but that might not be the same all through New Jersey. Obtain a copy of the test in a particular area, such as math or social studies, and read the questions to determine which were asked at what grade level. Then compare that to your local New Jersey curriculum to see if the information is the same. If your school does not teach the same information, a student might be above or below grade level for that particular subject.
