Superhero Homeworkopoly Ideas

"Homeworkopoly" is a board game used by elementary school teachers to inspire their students to complete homework on time. The game is very similar to the board game "Monopoly" and shares some of the same look and elements. However, instead of competing for real estate or play money, children who complete their homework play for a chance at small class prizes, a "get out of homework" pass for one day or the chance to check a book out of the class library. A superhero version of "Homeworkopoly" uses superheroes for added excitement.
  1. Comic Book Characters

    • Teachers may add a superhero theme to "Homeworkopoly" to keep the concept fresh for students who have played before, or to give a special incentive to students who read and love comic books. For example, a "Homeworkopoly" board with a superhero theme might list place names associated with the superhero in question, game tokens related to that superhero, or special effects children will recognize and appreciate, such as "Biff," "Pow" or "Kaboom."

    DC Comic Book Characters

    • DC's characters are among the best known in comics, and include Superman, Batman and Robin, Wonder Woman and Catwoman. A "Homeworkopoly" board featuring DC characters should use game tokens such as the Batmobile; real estate such as the Batcave, Superman's Fortress of Solitude, the offices of the Daily Planet and Wayne Manor; and setback cards with messages such as "Catwoman scratched you! Lose a turn" or "Green Kryptonite! Return to Start." Draw characters across the board or simply apply character stickers for an authentic look.

    Marvel Comic Book Characters

    • Spider-Man, the X-Men, Captain America, Iron Man and the Fantastic Four are some of the most famous heroes of the Marvel Universe. A "Homeworkopoly" board featuring Marvel characters should include tokens such as Captain America's shield and game squares using place names such as "Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters" and "The Daily Bugle." Draw up game cards that display messages such as "Mary Jane kissed you! You have the strength of ten! Advance two squares" and "Sub-Mariner attacks the surface world! Return to Start." Decorate the board with drawings or stickers of Marvel characters.

    Prizes

    • A superhero-themed "Homeworkopoly" should logically tempt students with superhero prizes. These need not be large or expensive. Use superhero stickers or coloring books if cost is a consideration. Other prizes include superhero movie passes and posters. Alternatively, give away superhero T-shirts, themed lunch boxes, caps, notebooks or bookmarks. For the grand prize, give away a superhero-themed computer game. Be sure to choose a game that both boys and girls will relate to, and choose a game compatible with a common game system.
