Most students studying the Bible will eventually need to memorize the Ten Commandments, or at least be familiar with them. You can make this easier by helping them memorize the Commandments through a game. Divide your students into two teams and create mock tablets. On each, write out parts of each of the Ten Commandments and leave blanks for words in each one. Have the teams compete to see who can complete the tablets first.
Everyone loves to play bingo. Using this to your advantage, you can play Bible Bingo to help students become more familiar with Bible facts. Create bingo sheets, and in each square, write words relative to the topic you're studying. The words could all have to do with the Christmas story, words about a story in the Bible, the names of the major prophets or kings in the Bible, or even books from the Old or New Testament. Seeing biblical concepts over and over will help the students learn and remember them.
Another way to familiarize students with biblical facts, ideas and concepts is to create crossword puzzles or word searches for them to complete. You can create these online (see Resources), print them and make copies. Seeing and searching for certain words in word searches, and coming up with the correct words for crossword puzzles, is a good way for students to familiarize themselves with the concepts they need to learn.
Another biblical concept that students will eventually need to become familiar with, if not memorize completely, is the books of the Bible. Help students learn their way around these books by creating two sets of cards with one book of the Bible listed on each. Then create two sets of headings for each section that the books belong to, such as prophecy, poetry, law and Gospels. Divide the students into two teams and see who can sort the most books correctly in the shortest time.
