Preschool Gym Game Ideas

Preschoolers are an energetic group of children who love to wiggle, giggle and play. Since they often have a short attention span, gym games need to have minimal instructions and be very interactive.
  1. Game: Bean Bag Balance

    • Begin the race with a bean bag or a similarly-shaped soft object on each child's head, have children race to the finish line.

    Game: Bean Bag Toss

    • Divide students into pairs have students toss the bean bag to each other; with each successful toss one partner should step back. The pair of students to get the farthest apart wins the game.

    Game: Red Light/Green Light

    • When "Green Light" is called out, it signals the children to proceed, when the students hear "Red Light" they must stop. The first player to cross the finish line wins.

    Game: Easy Volleyball

    • Divide children into teams and knock around a beach ball while sitting on the floor. Points are scored when a team lets the ball touch the ground.

    Game: Animal Race

    • Encourage children to race pretending to be different animals such as bunnies, butterflies, elephants, or ducks. Be sure to encourage making animal sounds while racing to encourage extra giggling.
