Set up the circumstances under which you're making the assumption of consequences in succession. If you assume that five things will happen in order when a particular event occurs, you must set up the event in order to see if those things happen as you assume.
Create a controlled environment in which the event can occur. If you wish to test the assumption that a tsunami will first destroy a levee, then destroy city streets, and then destroy houses, it is not always possible to prove these things in real life. You must create a model, exactly to scale, of the location where you think the event will occur, and then test whether the consequences do, indeed, happen.
Perform several tests to see if the consequences occur when you believe they will. Make sure that you are aware that the order of the consequences might change, which means that your hypothesis might also change as you go. If you are willing to go with the flow and be aware that changes might occur, you might find yourself much more successful in your hypothesis or assumption of the succession of the consequences.
