How to Figure Out Grade Averages Based on Percents

After spending hours of studying, it has come down to the test. You know your homework is 50 percent of your grade and you have all of your homework grades. Unless you can calculate your homework grade based on the homework score percentages, you won't know what you need to get on the test to get the grade you want. Fortunately, finding the average of your homework percentage scores will tell you what your overall homework grade will be.

Instructions

    • 1

      Convert the letter grades on all the homework assignments you want to average to percentages. Typically, the conversion would be:

      A+ = 100 percent

      A = 90 percent

      B+ = 85 percent

      B = 80 percent

      C+ = 75 percent

      C = 70 percent

      D+ = 65 percent

      D = 60 percent

      Anything below 60 percent would normally be considered a failing grade or F.

    • 2

      Add the percentages together.

    • 3

      Divide the sum by the number of assignments considered. For example, if you added 15 homework assignment scores together, divide the resulting sum from by 15.

    • 4

      Translate the answer, which is a percentage, into a letter grade.
